Break of Reality
Break of Reality has been applauded for its “genuine technique”, and its ability to “rock out like it means it” (Time Out New York). The band’s sound has been described as having “excitement, originality, and an undeniable intensity that louder, heavier bands only dream of. Break of Reality is going to win a Grammy someday. Bank on it.” (Rochester City News).
Break of Reality is a cello rock band originally formed at the Eastman School of Music in 2003. The band is filling concert venues around the country with fans eager to hear the group’s original music, as well as interpretations of music by Tool, Metallica, and System of a Down. Its sound is cinematic, subdued and heavy all at once, and the band’s live audiences are equally diverse; fans of Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, and Yo-Yo Ma are finally getting acquainted.
Break of Reality has given hundreds of performances across the country at performing arts centers, colleges, rock clubs, and music festivals, such as South By Southwest in Austin, TX. Along with performing, the group has written and performed original music that has been featured in national television programs, including Dateline NBC and America’s Investigative Reports on PBS, which went on to win an Emmy.
Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Forbes Magazine have featured Break of Reality in recent articles regarding internet radio, a medium that produces over 20 million streams a year for the band. The band has seen much success through other online outlets as well. In 2013, the group achieved 25K followers on Facebook, and its latest YouTube video release (the band’s rendition of the Game of Thrones theme song) has reached over 2 million views alone. Break of Reality has released three albums to date, The Sound Between (2006), Spectrum of the Sky (2009), and Covers (2012), which have sold over 50,000 copies worldwide. Their upcoming album, Ten, will be released in March of 2014.
Break of Reality is committed to music education; the band has performed at hundreds of public schools across the country, encouraging music students to explore all types of genres on their instruments. The band is also an advocate for music entrepreneurship and has developed the Break of Reality DIY Lecture Series, which was designed to empower budding classical musicians with practical, real world music business knowledge. - facebook.com/breakofreality
