Venue Details

Utah plays its home games at Ute Soccer Field, part of the athletics corridor on the U. campus. The facility, which has been undergoing a phased renovation since the summer of 2002, now has a capacity of 2,000. The cost of the project to this point has totaled to over $650,000.

The initial phase of the project, costing $500,000, was funded in part by a $400,000 donation from the Katherine W. Dumke and Ezekiel R. Dumke, Jr. Foundation. Before the start of the 2002 season, permanent seating accommodating over 800 fans was erected on the south side of the field. A new irrigation system was installed and the scoreboard was relocated to the west side.

During the fall of 2003, a 1,000 square foot ticketing, concessions and restrooms facility was completed. It is located behind the permanent seating structure off the south side of the field. Thanks to a second donation from the Dumke family of $160,000, lights were erected during the fall of 2004. Musco, one of the nation's leaders in sports lighting systems, manufactured and installed four 80-foot poles, each capped by 20 lamps arranged over three rows, at the corners of the soccer field. New windscreens and banners were added before the 2005 season to further enhance the aesthetics of Ute Field.

The University also constructed a pedestrian mall along the south side of Ute Field in the fall of 2003. The pedestrian mall connects the University Medical Center TRAX line to the U.'s athletics corridor, which also includes the Jon M. Huntsman Center, Crimson Court and Ute Natatorium. Long-term plans call for a fence to be placed around the entire soccer-softball complex.

Two milestone events took place at Ute Field in 2005. Utah staged its first night game on Sept. 9 against Purdue, drawing 1,141 fans. The U. also hosted NCAA Tournament play for the second time with first and second round games Nov. 10-12. The first round session drew 1,650 fans, accounting for the largest paid attendance in the history of facility. Utah hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 2003. The Mountain West Conference Championship comes to Ute Field in 2006.
